Webex Teams Extension

Install

Cisco Webex Teams for Windows is an all-in-one collaboration solution developed for Windows XP to Windows 2008 server. What would otherwise be five different applications - messaging, conference call, email, calendar, and file sharing - Webex offers all these services in its desktop and mobile application.

Browser extensions allow developers to add modules that extend access to browser data for delivering the best app experiences. Cisco Webex extensions for Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari allow users to launch the Cisco Webex Meetings desktop app when they visit a Cisco Webex site (cloud or on-premises) to start or join a meeting.

  • Navigate to the Campus Software Library or Cisco Webex Teams site to acquire the Webex for Mac OS installation file Navigate to where the downloaded file was placed and double click the file A drive will appear on your desktop named 'Webex'.
  • The Cisco Webex Meetings integration makes it easy to add a link for your Webex meeting or Personal Room meeting to your message in your team channel in Microsoft Teams. With the Webex tab, you can schedule a Webex meeting and invite channel members so that it appears in their upcoming meetings lists and in their Microsoft Office 365 calendars.
  • Enable an entirely cloud hosted VolP PBX and phone service. Assign inbound switchboard numbers, extension numbers, DID’s, single number reach, call trees, voicemail – and use entirely soft clients via the Webex Teams app or with Webex enabled deskphones and video phones.
  • All Messaging Apps. Build, test, and deploy your software faster with the Jenkins. Get instant updates on any web feed with the RSS bot for Webex. Enhance employee experience with EdCast for Webex, bringing AI. Financial services professionals: Schedule.

An extension’s access to browser data is limited by how granular the browser platform permissions are. Given that browsers can’t limit permissions to extensions today, when an extension needs access to browsing data, the browser instead shows a default severe warning to users to confirm that they trust the extension that they’re installing.

For example, third-party extension installation instructions from Safari (given here) show that a severe warning will appear when installing any extension that needs to connect to the page. While malicious extensions can take advantage of the broadened access, extensions from trusted sources are there to safely enhance the user experience.

The Cisco Webex extension is only loaded and brought to action by the browser when the browser detects a specially crafted string in the page being loaded. The extension never reads any data from the page being loaded; it’s used by the page to launch the desktop app.

Browsers will load the Cisco Webex extension when a user accesses a page on *.webex.com domains, or any other domain for use with Cisco’s on-premises Webex offering (that is, Cisco Webex Meetings Server), to allow users to start or join meetings.

The source code of the browser extension is deployed on users’ machines, and a technically savvy user can validate the extent of the extension’s activities. Most endpoint security companies and software online reputation companies also watch out for unsafe extensions and notify the community and the end users.
